About us
FlandersBio is the organization representing the Flemish life sciences cluster.
Our members are organizations involved with life sciences R&D and/or -production in Flanders or servicing the Flemish life sciences community.
A cluster is a geographic concentration of interconnected companies, associated institutes, suppliers, service and capital providers as well as firms in related industries.
The size of the cluster (Flanders) is chosen in function of the labor market mobility, the language and the perception of proximity (locations that can be visited within a 1-2h drive).
Why a cluster?
Clusters are particularly important in knowledge based sectors, despite the trend towards globalization. This is because the type of knowledge that creates competitive advantage requires proximity or regular face-to-face interactions and trust in order to be effectively communicated.
FlandersBio is a not for profit organization (VZW).
Mission Statement
FlandersBio is acting as the driving force for the sustained growth of the Flemish knowledge-based bio-economy.
Our goal is to let the life sciences pole become a driver of strong regional growth in Flanders. We aim to build the critical mass that by itself will attract further companies, investors, service providers, suppliers, as well as a pool of skilled labor
